Ministry of Transport and Logistic Services
Saudi Arabia
The Ministry of Transport and Logistics Services in Saudi Arabia was initially established in 1953, evolving over the years to cover land, maritime, and air transport, and later expanding its role to logistics services. In 2016, the Ministry also assumed oversight of the aviation sector. In 2021, it was rebranded to its current name, reflecting its expanded responsibilities in logistics and transport.
The Ministry’s roles include supervising various transport modes, implementing projects to enhance movement within the Kingdom, and supporting sectors such as tourism, trade, and pilgrimage. In 2021, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman launched the National Transport and Logistics Strategy (NTLS), positioning Saudi Arabia as a global logistics hub and setting goals for infrastructure development, private sector partnerships, and governance improvements.
A General Plan for Logistics Centers, launched in 2023, includes 59 centers nationwide aimed at supporting export and e-commerce. Recent milestones include the Kingdom’s rise in the World Bank’s Logistics Performance Index, Apple’s investment in the Integrated Logistics Zone, and an overarching strategy to place Saudi Arabia among the top 10 global logistics leaders by 2030. These initiatives underscore Saudi Arabia’s focus on advancing its logistics sector as a key driver of economic growth.
